Overview The main change since yesterday is a 0.1013 increase in the macro-regime reading, which remains classified as Neutral with high conviction. The current environment reflects a tension between a positive risk-appetite impulse and a 10-year Treasury yield of 4.64% with a +47 bps curve slope (the difference between 10-year and 2-year yields).

Macro Regime The Neutral label is derived from four components: a dominant risk-appetite factor of +0.6318, a negative growth factor of -0.1139, and modest contributions from liquidity (+0.0233) and volatility (+0.0438). The 0.1013 daily rise is largely attributable to the risk-appetite movement. The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) flags Australia, Brazil, Canada and France as having elevated systemic-risk status, with debt-service ratios of 20 %, 29 %, 25 % and 21 % respectively. Financial conditions remain loose, as indicated by the NFCI (National Financial Conditions Index) at -0.5660.

Key Risks The BIS-identified countries keep sovereign and household debt-service sensitivity in focus, especially given a 30-year mortgage rate of 6.65 %. On the cryptocurrency side, an outflow of 825 BTC (valued at $65 M) from Binance to an unidentified “whale” reduces spot supply on exchanges. At the same time, Binance holds inflows of 200 M USDT and 83 M USDT, a configuration that could increase spot-price volatility around the $78,758 BTC level.

Market Context

  • 10-year Treasury yield: 4.64 %
  • 2-year Treasury yield: 4.17 %
  • Yield-curve slope: +47 bps
  • 10-year breakeven inflation rate: 2.32 % (market-based inflation expectation)
  • 30-year mortgage rate: 6.65 %
  • High-yield OAS (option-adjusted spread): 270 bps
  • Investment-grade OAS: 81 bps
  • NFCI: -0.5660 (indicates loose financial conditions)
  • Federal Reserve balance sheet: $6,745,699 million
  • Reverse repo facility: $0.7020 trillion
  • Initial jobless claims: 206,000
  • University of Michigan consumer sentiment index: 49.50
  • Bitcoin price: $78,758
  • Ethereum price: $2,487
  • Solana price: $101.21

Watch List The 14:00 UTC block on 2026-08-28 includes:

  • A speech by Federal Reserve Chair Warsh
  • The Non-Farm Payrolls Annual Revision Preliminary release, with a prior revision figure of -911.0

Key points of interest are whether Chair Warsh discusses the 4.64 % 10-year yield or the loose NFCI reading of -0.5660, and whether the payroll revision confirms a weaker labor market that could affect the +0.6318 risk-appetite factor. A substantial downward revision would test the high-conviction Neutral regime.

Correction (Phase 623, 2026-09-27): this note gave the Federal Reserve's overnight reverse repo (ON RRP) usage as $0.7020 trillion. The source series, FRED RRPONTSYD, is published in billions of dollars, so the correct figure for this date is $702 million. The stated figure was 1,000 times too large.
